Welcome.
HI SPEC SEAFRONT APARTMENT – PLANNING, DESIGN & MANAGEMENT OF COMPLETE REFURBISHMENT
With responsibility to design and manage the complete refurbishment of this weekend apartment, I took immediate inspiration from the outstanding beach front position and incredible sea views!
In the initial phase I worked with the clients to design a space which needed to fulfil a variety of specific practical needs and turn what was a dingy, dysfunctional and dated space into a calm, contemporary apartment that simply oozes Brighton!
Having worked them through a thorough tender process the clients settled with one of my dedicated teams of builders and craftsmen who stripped it back to the bare bones of the building – remodelled, re plumbed and rebuilt it to the meticulous detail required.
Mixing retro undertones against a Nautical backdrop created an air of simplicity which belied the precision detailing and High specification required for such a challenging space and its requirements.

Some of the more bespoke elements included:
- Structural work to move, centre and square off the peculiar archway leading from the lounge to the dining room.
- I then commissioned handmade oak Shoji Screens to allow the light to filter through whilst still providing the privacy required.
- Also in the dining room we remodelled the space to incorporate a porthole window in a redundant doorway, relocated the cupboard to have hallway access and maximised the alcove space with beautiful waney edged oak shelving from a local reclamation yard.
- Finally we raised the floor with smoked oak wooden flooring to allow the clients to still appreciate the incredible sea views whilst seated at the dining table.
- The low concrete ceilings throughout lead me to design box coving around the perimeter of the living spaces, with contemporary, energy efficient and adjustable down lights , the result was simply stunning and brought the apartment bang up to date.
- We further increased the light and space throughout with bespoke mirrored wardrobes and carefully planned mirroring in the small bathrooms.
- One of my personal favourites in the bathrooms was the unique, recycled glass worktops which we had made to include sea shells, a lovely touch with the pebble mosaic floor – they worked together beautifully.
- From the skirts and sockets to the curtains and cushions, not one single detail was left to chance and was scrutinised , specified and sourced to create the perfect, well deserved retreat for this busy couple.
